What is Learner Driver Insurance?
Learner driver car insurance is a specialised policy created to help get learners behind the wheel. Use a learner driver car insurance policy to practice, or to take your test in a car you’re familiar with, as long as it fits the necessary criteria. Whether you are looking for insurance to be covered on your parents car or your own, we can help you get covered.
Lessons are a great way to learn the driving skills you need, but practising in your spare time can be the difference between a pass and a fail.
Avoid being tied into a long-term insurance policy when you’re just a learner. Save time and money by getting a quote to drive your friend’s or family member’s car with fully comprehensive car insurance. Without putting their no claims discount at risk.
How Much Does Learner Driver Insurance Cost?
Learner driver insurance costs do differ depending on a few factors. But with a temporary learner insurance cover you can be confident that you’re getting a great deal compared to being added to an annual policy.
By taking out a temporary learner insurance policy, you will save money by only paying for cover when you are actually going out to practice and you can also ensure you are protecting the car owner’s no claims discount.
Who Needs Temporary Provisional Insurance?
Long-term annual policies are often pricey and inflexible, meaning they’re not the best fit for learner drivers. Our short-term policies are great for learners looking to:
- Get some more practice before their test.
- Borrow a friend or family member’s car.
- Take their test in a friend or family member’s car.
- Protect the car owner’s no claims discount.
What Are The Different Types of Learner Insurance Policies Available?
We offer temporary learner insurance policies which can be used for a number of reasons. Due to the infrequency of practice sessions learners tend to have, temporary options are one of the best ways to insure learner drivers. Our available learner policies include:
- Driving Test Insurance: If you have to take your test in your own car, you must have insurance in place. Our learner policies cover you for that.
- Learning in Your Parent’s Car: We know most learners won’t be practising in their own car, so our policies provide the ideal cover for learning in your parents’ or friends’ car – their no-claims discount will be protected whilst you practise.
- Pay as You Go Learner Insurance: The pay-as-you-go element of our temporary options is what makes them so great. If you’re just going to have practice sessions in the week leading up to your test, then you can just choose a week of learner insurance. If you are going to be going out for a couple of hours every week, just opt for an hourly learner policy as and when you need it. Easy!
- Learner Driver Practice: Our temporary learner insurance is made for providing cover whilst you’re out on practice sessions outside of lessons. Whether you’re learning in a manual or automatic car, our insurance will have you covered so you can get in all the practice sessions you need.
Flexible Learner Driver Insurance Gives You The Best Chance Of Passing
Practice is important when you’re learning any new skill, especially when you’re learning to drive. The time needed to pass your test varies from person to person. But on average it’s found that you need 40 to 45 hours to pass your test, supplemented with 15 to 20 hours of practice with family and friends.
This makes short-term learner driver insurance the perfect choice as you can drive any car while being properly supervised outside of lessons. This gives you the chance to rack up those practice hours away from your driving instructor in your own time.
Insurance for learner drivers gives you the chance to improve your driving before your test. Our flexible cover lets you insure a learner for as little as 1 day or up to 4 months. Save yourself the cost of an annual policy and pay only for the few days of practice you need. Rather than wasting money on long term cover you won’t use, save with one of our flexible, temporary insurance policies.
Can I Get Temporary Learner Driver Insurance – Am I Eligible?
Taking out temporary learner driver insurance is easy. You can take out temporary learner insurance if you have a provisional licence, are between the ages of 17 and and meet some more criteria, highlighted here. The named driver must always be accompanied by someone over 25 who owns a full UK driving licence that they’ve held for at least 3 years.
Your learner driver insurance policy expires when you pass your test. However, you will have a 3 hour grace period so that you can drive home from the test centre. Once this has passed you will need to source an alternative policy to remain covered, like our temporary car insurance, the perfect insurance for new drivers!
